OUR STORY

How did we get here?

In 2018, Bobby went on a work trip to the Phoenix area.  While he was there, he met up with an old friend on a golf course in Buckeye, AZ. He snapped a photo of the gorgeous desert landscape and sent it to his wife, Katy, in a text that read, “Pack your bags, I’m buying us a house here…” 

From that moment on, Bobby knew he had to figure out a way to convince his company to move him to the Valley. In March 2021, their wish came true and the Boykins packed up and moved cross country from Flower Mound, Texas to the west valley just outside of the Surprise/ Buckeye area.  

As soon as we arrived, we knew we wanted to explore, so we immediately started hiking at the White Tank Mountains which are basically in our backyard. That sparked a deep desire to hike and explore everything in the great state of Arizona.

As we shared our hiking adventures on social media we realized that we were bringing awareness to the beauty of Arizona that our native Arizonian friends were taking for granted and that our out-of-town friends were jealous of.

Because we know what it’s like to be first-time hikers and what it’s like fumbling from site to site trying to get all of the details about each trail, Bobby had this idea to create GOHIKEAZ.com and be a one-stop-shop resource for all Arizona hikers.
